Missouri paycheck questions
How much Missouri income tax comes out of my paycheck?
Missouri annualizes your pay, subtracts a standard deduction for your MO W-4 status, applies rates up to 4.7%, and rounds each paycheck's withholding to the dollar. Show the math lists every step.
Why does the calculator ask about Form MO W-4?
Your employer withholds Missouri tax based on the Form MO W-4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.
Does this include Missouri city or local tax?
Kansas City and St. Louis city earnings taxes are not included. Check your pay stub or your city's tax office for the local rate.
Will Missouri's minimum wage go up in 2027?
No increase is scheduled. Missouri's minimum wage rose to $15.00 an hour in 2026, and under a 2025 law (HB 567) it is no longer adjusted each year for inflation. Any future raise would need a new law or ballot measure.
When do I get my last paycheck if I'm fired in Missouri?
Wages are due on the day you are discharged. If you are not paid, send your former employer a written request by certified mail. If it does not pay within seven days, your wages keep running for up to 60 days.
How often must Missouri employers pay?
Corporations doing business in Missouri must pay at least semimonthly, within 16 days after each payroll period ends. Executive, administrative, professional and commission-paid employees may be paid monthly.
Can the Missouri Department of Labor collect my unpaid wages?
The Division of Labor Standards investigates wage complaints but has no legal power to make employers pay wages owed, except minimum wage and prevailing wage shortfalls. For other unpaid pay, you can sue in small claims court (under $5,000) or circuit court.
What is the tipped minimum wage in Missouri?
Missouri employers must pay tipped employees at least $7.50 an hour, which is 50% of the $15.00 minimum wage. If tips do not bring total pay to $15.00 an hour, the employer must pay the difference.
Why is my first paycheck in January different?
New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.
Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?
Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.
How much is $70,000 a year after taxes in Missouri?
About $55,735.16 a year, or $2,143.66 every two weeks, for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions in 2026. That is after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Missouri income tax. Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.
