    New Mexico paycheck questions

How much New Mexico income tax comes out of my paycheck?

New Mexico uses your federal W-4 filing status and applies 1.5% to 5.9% withholding brackets. There are no state allowances. Show the math lists every step.

Why does the calculator ask about Form W-4?

Your employer withholds New Mexico tax based on the Form W-4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.

What is the minimum wage in Santa Fe or Albuquerque compared to New Mexico?

The state minimum is $12.00 an hour, but Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, Las Cruces, the City of Santa Fe and Santa Fe County enforce their own minimum wages. The state says it enforces the highest rate that applies to you.

How fast must I get my final paycheck if I am fired in New Mexico?

If your wages are a fixed and definite amount, your employer must pay you within five days of firing you. If the amount is not fixed, such as commissions, it is due within ten days. If you quit, it is due on the next payday.

How long do I have to file a wage claim in New Mexico?

You must file a wage claim with the Labor Relations Division of the Department of Workforce Solutions within three years of your employer's last wage violation against you. The claim form must be signed and dated but does not need to be notarized.

How often must I be paid in New Mexico?

Most workers must be paid on regular paydays no more than 16 days apart: by the 25th for work done on the 1st to 15th, and by the 10th of the next month for the rest. Some salaried professional, administrative and executive staff may be paid monthly.

Why is my first paycheck in January different?

New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.

Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?

Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.

How much is $70,000 a year after taxes in New Mexico?

About $55,572.66 a year, or $2,137.41 every two weeks, for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions in 2026. That is after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and New Mexico income tax. Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.
