Hawaii paycheck questions
How much Hawaii income tax comes out of my paycheck?
Hawaii subtracts $1,144 per HW-4 allowance plus a $4,350 extra allowance from your yearly pay, applies 1.4% to 7.9% brackets, and divides by your number of paychecks. Show the math lists every step.
Why does the calculator ask about Form HW-4?
Your employer withholds Hawaii tax based on the Form HW-4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.
What is the Hawaii TDI deduction?
Temporary disability insurance. Employers may take up to 0.5% of weekly wages, at most $7.50 a week in 2026. Many employers pay it themselves; tick the box if yours does.
What is Hawaii's minimum wage in 2026 and when does it go up next?
Hawaii's minimum wage is $16.00 an hour from January 1, 2026. It stays there through 2027 and rises to $18.00 an hour on January 1, 2028. Tipped workers can be paid as little as $14.75 only under strict conditions.
When do I get my final paycheck if I am fired in Hawaii?
If you are fired, Hawaii law requires full payment at the time of discharge, or no later than the next working day if conditions prevent immediate payment. If you quit, you are paid by the next regular payday.
How much TDI is deducted from my paycheck in Hawaii?
Your employer can deduct up to 0.5% of your weekly wages for temporary disability insurance. In 2026 the most that can be withheld is $7.50 a week, based on a maximum weekly wage base of $1,500.21.
Can my Hawaii employer pay me only once a month?
Generally no. Hawaii employers must pay at least twice a month. Monthly pay is allowed only if a majority of the workforce or bargaining unit votes for it by secret ballot.
Why is my first paycheck in January different?
New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.
Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?
Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.
How much is $70,000 a year after taxes in Hawaii?
About $53,931.80 a year, or $2,074.30 every two weeks, for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions in 2026. That is after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Hawaii income tax and Hawaii TDI. Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.
What is the average salary in Hawaii?
The median (typical) worker in Hawaii earns $27.08 an hour, about $56,330 a year full time, and the mean (average) is $33.78 an hour, about $70,260 a year (BLS, May 2025).
