Utah paycheck questions
How much Utah income tax comes out of my paycheck?
Utah takes 4.45% of your taxable wages, then subtracts a base allowance credit that shrinks as your pay rises. Utah uses your federal W-4 filing status. Show the math lists every step.
Why does the calculator ask about Form W-4?
Your employer withholds Utah tax based on the Form W-4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.
Why is Utah tax missing for some pay dates?
Utah cut its rate to 4.45% for pay periods from June 1, 2026. We have verified only the new schedules, so earlier pay dates leave out Utah tax.
What is the minimum wage in Utah in 2026?
Utah's minimum wage is $7.25 an hour, matching the federal minimum. Tipped workers who receive at least $30 a month in tips can be paid a cash wage of $2.13 an hour, as long as wages plus tips reach $7.25.
When do I get my final paycheck in Utah if I am fired?
If your employer separates you from the job, all wages you earned are due within 24 hours. If you quit and have no written contract for a set period, your final wages are due on your next regular payday.
Does Utah have its own overtime law?
No. The Utah Labor Commission says the state has no overtime law. Overtime for most hourly workers comes from federal law, which requires 1.5 times your regular rate for hours over 40 in a workweek.
Can my Utah employer take money out of my paycheck?
Only in limited cases: when required by law or a court order, when you authorize the deduction in writing, when a hearing officer approves an offset, or for retirement plan contributions. Your employer must show each deduction on a statement every payday.
How do I file an unpaid wage claim in Utah?
File with the Utah Labor Commission's Antidiscrimination and Labor Division, either online or by completing the Wage Claim Assignment Form and delivering, mailing or faxing it. Keep pay stubs and records, as an investigator may ask for them.
Why is my first paycheck in January different?
New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.
Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?
Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.
How much is $70,000 a year after taxes in Utah?
About $54,955.16 a year, or $2,113.66 every two weeks, for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions in 2026. That is after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Utah income tax. Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.
What is the average salary in Utah?
