    Ohio paycheck questions

How much Ohio income tax comes out of my paycheck?

Ohio annualizes your pay, subtracts $650 per IT 4 exemption, applies three brackets, and divides by your number of paychecks. Show the math lists every step.

Why does the calculator ask about Form IT 4?

Your employer withholds Ohio tax based on the Form IT 4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.

Does this include Ohio city or local tax?

Add Ohio school district and city or village income tax by picking your school district and where you work in the Ohio settings below (rates from the Ohio Department of Taxation). Check your pay stub or your city's tax office for the local rate.

Why is Ohio tax missing for some pay dates?

Ohio changed its withholding formula for pay dates from August 1, 2026. We have verified only the new formula, so earlier pay dates leave out Ohio tax.

What is the Ohio minimum wage in 2027?

Ohio's minimum wage goes up to $11.40 an hour for 2027, from $11.00 in 2026. Tipped workers must get at least $5.70 an hour plus tips. Businesses grossing less than $419,000 a year may pay the federal $7.25 instead.

Does my Ohio employer have to give me a pay stub?

Yes. Since April 9, 2025, Ohio employers must give each employee a written or electronic pay statement every pay period. It must show gross and net wages, each deduction and its purpose, the pay period and pay date, and hours worked for hourly employees.

How often does an Ohio employer have to pay me?

At least twice a month. Ohio law says wages for the first half of a month must be paid by the first day of the next month, and wages for the second half by the fifteenth day of the next month.

What happens if my Ohio employer pays me very late?

If wages that are not in dispute stay unpaid 30 days after your regular payday, Ohio law adds liquidated damages of 6% of the unpaid amount or $200, whichever is greater, on top of the wages owed.

Where do I report unpaid wages in Ohio?

File a free online complaint with the Ohio Department of Commerce, Bureau of Wage and Hour Administration. It handles unpaid minimum wage, unpaid overtime, unauthorized deductions and last paychecks being held. It cannot act as your lawyer.

Why is my first paycheck in January different?

New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.

Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?

Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.

How much is $70,000 a year after taxes in Ohio?

About $56,363.58 a year, or $2,167.83 every two weeks, for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions in 2026. That is after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare and Ohio income tax. Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.

What is the average salary in Ohio?

The median (typical) worker in Ohio earns $23.74 an hour, about $49,380 a year full time, and the mean (average) is $30.96 an hour, about $64,400 a year (BLS, May 2025). The median is lower because a few high earners pull the average up. At the median, take-home pay is about $1,567.77 every two weeks for a single filer.
