Oregon paycheck questions
How much Oregon income tax comes out of my paycheck?
Oregon subtracts a standard deduction and part of the federal income tax withheld from your pay, applies 4.75% to 9.9%, then takes off $263 a year per OR-W-4 allowance. Show the math lists every step.
Why does the calculator ask about Form OR-W-4?
Your employer withholds Oregon tax based on the Form OR-W-4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.
Does this include Oregon city or local tax?
Portland Metro and Multnomah County personal income taxes, and employer-paid transit district taxes, are not included. Check your pay stub or your city's tax office for the local rate.
What is the Paid Leave Oregon deduction?
Employees pay 60% of the 1% Paid Leave Oregon contribution, which is 0.6% of wages up to the Social Security wage base. Some employers pay it for you; tick the box if yours does.
What is the Oregon statewide transit tax?
A 0.1% tax on wages that your employer withholds to fund public transit. There is no cap.
What is the minimum wage in Oregon right now?
From July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027 it is $15.55 an hour for the standard rate, $16.80 inside the Portland metro urban growth boundary and $14.55 in non-urban counties. The next inflation adjustment would come July 1, 2027.
Can my employer in Oregon pay a lower wage because I get tips?
No. Tip credits are illegal in Oregon, so tipped workers must receive the full minimum wage for their region before tips. Tips are separate and cannot be counted as wages.
When do I get my final paycheck in Oregon if I am fired?
By the end of the next business day. If you quit with at least 48 hours notice, it is due on your last day; with less notice, within five business days or on the next regular payday, whichever comes first.
What is the Paid Leave Oregon deduction on my paycheck?
It is your share of the Paid Leave Oregon contribution. For 2026 the total rate is 1% of wages, and employees pay 60% of it, so about 0.6% of your pay. Employers with 25 or more employees pay the other 40%.
What is the Oregon statewide transit tax?
It is a tax withheld from your wages at one-tenth of 1% (0.1%). A scheduled increase has been delayed until Oregon voters decide on it in November 2026, so employers keep withholding at 0.1% for now.
Why is my first paycheck in January different?
New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.
Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?
Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.
How much is $70,000 a year after taxes in Oregon?
About $52,872.30 a year, or $2,033.55 every two weeks, for a single filer with no pre-tax deductions in 2026. That is after federal income tax, Social Security, Medicare, Oregon income tax, Paid Leave Oregon and Oregon statewide transit tax. Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.
What is the average salary in Oregon?
The median (typical) worker in Oregon earns $27.40 an hour, about $56,990 a year full time, and the mean (average) is $34.84 an hour, about $72,470 a year (BLS, May 2025).
