New Jersey paycheck questions
How much New Jersey income tax comes out of my paycheck?
New Jersey takes your NJ-W4 allowances off each paycheck, then uses one of five withholding tables (Rate A to E). Your filing status picks the table unless you chose one on Line 3. Show the math lists every step.
Why does the calculator ask about Form NJ-W4?
Your employer withholds New Jersey tax based on the Form NJ-W4 you filled in, which is separate from your federal Form W-4. If you never filled one in, employers usually withhold as single with no allowances.
What are the NJ UI, TDI and FLI deductions?
New Jersey employees pay into unemployment and workforce funds (0.425% up to $44,800 in 2026) and into disability and family leave insurance.
What is the New Jersey minimum wage in 2027?
From January 1, 2027, New Jersey's minimum wage is $16.48 an hour for most workers, up from $15.92. Small and seasonal employers must pay $16.25, farm workers $15.00, and the tipped cash wage becomes $6.61.
How much is taken out of my New Jersey paycheck for disability and family leave?
In 2026 workers pay 0.19% for Temporary Disability Insurance and 0.23% for Family Leave Insurance on wages up to $171,100, plus 0.3825% for unemployment and 0.0425% for workforce development on wages up to $44,800.
How long do I have to file a wage claim in New Jersey?
There is a six-year statute of limitations for complaints about unpaid minimum wage, overtime and other wages. You can file with the NJ Division of Wage and Hour Compliance online, by mail or by fax, and a trusted person can help you file.
Can my New Jersey employer make me take a pay card?
No. A pay card needs your written consent, must allow at least one free full withdrawal each pay period, and cannot be a condition of getting or keeping the job. Direct deposit also needs your agreement and cannot cost you extra fees.
Why is my first paycheck in January different?
New federal withholding tables and a new Social Security cap start on January 1. Pick a 2027 pay date in the calculator to see the change.
Why did my paycheck get bigger late in the year?
Social Security stops once your pay for the year reaches $184,500. Enter your pay so far this year to see when that happens.

Use the calculator for your own filing status and deductions.
